• The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) originates on
the appearance of the lateral femoral posteromedial
condyle. From there, anteromedially courses to
insert into a depressed area just prior to and
between the tibial intercondylar Eminences.
• The ACL is about 33 mm and 11 mm
diameter (Miller, 2000). The blood supply is from
geniculate artery. Innervation is via branches
tibio nerve.
• Often described as having two separate beams. The
anteromedial bundle is tight in flexion. The posterolaterale
bundle is narrow in scope.
• The primary function of ACL is resist front
translation of the tibia on the femur. Secondary functions
include the stabilization against excessive and launch
valgus stress stabilizer hyperextension, proprioception,
and the mechanism of screw House.
